Director / Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon
Dr Adrian Richards graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in 1990 after also completing his first degree in Biology at the College of Arts and Sciences of that Ivy League institution. He received his certificate in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS) from NYU/Bellevue Hospital Centre four years later. In 1994 he returned home to Barbados to fulfil the conditions of the Barbados Exhibition (Scholarship) that he had garnered in 1984 while at Harrison College.
Dr Richards maintains a busy (OMS) practice at “The Oral Care Centre” and has been involved in organized dentistry throughout his career. He is a past president of the Barbados Dental Association and has served on the executive board of that organization for over 15 years. He is also a past chairman of the BDA Midwinter Dental Convention; a member of the Barbados Dental Council from 1997 until 2001 and its chairman for two years as well as another 4-year spell in the new millennium. Dr Richards has maintained memberships in both the ADA and the AAOMS. Implant surgery and Dentoalveolar surgery and impacted teeth remain areas of special interest to him.
He is also a keen Fine Art photographer and Art collector. In his spare time, he enjoys hiking and Tennis.
Director / Periodontology Specialist
Dr. Alison Mayers is a dental surgeon with a strong passion for knowledge and continued professional development. Having gained her dental degree from the University of Sheffield in England in 1992, Dr. Mayers then completed her MSc in Periodontics in 1997 and became specialist eligible when Periodontology became recognized as a specialty in the UK.
For over 25 years Dr. Mayers has provided specialist periodontal services to the dentists and the populations of Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean. This involves providing comprehensive care to patients suffering from periodontal (gum) disease, along with treating gum recession through grafting and other techniques such as Pinhole Gum rejuvenation. However, Dr. Mayers' practise is not limited to periodontal care as she also enjoys transforming smiles by combining her periodontal expertise along with crowns, bridges, veneers and other restorations and prostheses to achieve excellent aesthetics and natural-looking, beautiful smiles.
A self-titled "continuing education junkie", Dr. Mayers is a strong believer in continuing professional development and as such is a founding member of “Dental Education Network”: an organisation founded to provide and promote continuing education within the dental fraternity of Barbados. In-spite of being terribly busy in dental practice, in 2009 she also successfully completed a master's degree (MA) in Health Care Ethics and Law, with Merit, at The Centre for Social Ethics and Policy (CSEP) of the University of Manchester.
Dr. Mayers has been a member of the Ethics Committee of The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Barbados, and also served as the chair of the Dental Council twice. She has also been President of the Barbados Dental Association (twice) and is currently the Regional Vice President for the Caribbean and Canada of the Commonwealth Dental Association.
On a lighter note, Dr. Mayers has also recently published her first book “12 Days of Christmas Ornaments”, a book which includes a selection of spiritual reflections, centered around her collection of Christmas ornaments.
